2 Corinthians 4:16: So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
When I was a youngster growing up, and even into my young adult life, the cold or hot weather never seemed to bother me. In the winter as I was a teenager, I would wear a long sleeve shirt and some times with the sleeves rolled up.
In the summer time, it seemed that I could work all day no matter how hot it got out. But I have to wonder: am I the only one that sort of noticed that as we get older, the heat is hotter and the cold is colder. I notice also that when I take more breaks in the summer to cool off and, if the weather is really hot out, I try to find things to keep me busy inside.
But its not only the heat :I seem to sound more like a bowl of cereal as I get older — more snap, crackle and pop! So as we get older, it seems for some of us our bodies start to break down faster.
Recently I had a project that I figured would take 3 days to have it completely done. It was more like 2 weeks to finish up and I had to ask for extra help beside Pam my wife helping@
A Biblical perspective
So as the scriptures tell us, don’t lose heart: this happens to almost everyone. But one thing is certain: when we are children of God we can keep our inner man or woman renewed through our daily prayer life and study of Gods word.
My father in-law had a saying, “In my mind, I’m still young but my body is telling me different.” You ever notice this is so true with many of us? We cant do what we used to do or as much as we used to do. A days job turns into 3 days. A weeks job turns into a months work.
Psalms 71:17-18: O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.
WintertimeI mentioned that I seem not to be able to stand the cold as much either. Well, most of the winter I sit with my legs under a blanket. In fact, my brother and sister in-law felt so bad for me they made two quilts for me to use. I use them every winter!
Ecclesiastes 7:10: Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? For thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this.
When we look back and ask, “Why were my younger days better than what they are now?”, we really need to stop and reflect. I believe the best is yet to come!
John 14:2-3: In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
So I pray that the thought of what awaits you encourages you when it’s hard to go on. And if you don’t know Jesus I would be happy to introduce you to Him. If you think it is hot here think of how hot it is in Hell as the scripture say in Revelation…
Revelations 21:8: But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
May God Bless you and help in the days when you don’t feel so young.
