The Right Tool For The Right Job
I got up this morning with the thought of getting a few things done around the house and then looking to see what was wrong with our truck. As I went through my tools I came a cross one that I have don’t remember seeing before and I looked at the size of the wrench and thought “when would I ever need wrench this size”. It was what I thought to be an oddball size. I finally got a few things done and besides — we had to wait for a delivery truck to bring a package I had to sign for, so this was what I thought would be an ordinary day.
As the day went on it got close to noon so I asked Pam to come out and help me for a few minutes with the truck and as she slowly backed the truck up so I could see where the sound was coming from. It was the right front the sway-bar had broken a connection. So I figured a easy fix and went to get the tools I thought it was going to be. Since it was a Dodge I grabbed a 1/2, 9/16 and a 5/8. And started to see which if these was going to do the job and the winner was none of them.
So this sort of caught me off guard and I figured ok metric. So I go and grab a hand full of metric wrenches and to my surprise none of these was a good fit either. By now I would have already gottten the right tool but this was starting to make me wonder, so I tried the first set of wrenches again. Still no winner then in the back of my mind I get this thought “I have already shown you the right tool,” so I go back and grab the one I did not think I used before.
Guess what! You guessed it, this was the wrench I needed to begin with the fit was perfect. Needless to say I got the nuts turned off and the new connecter installed and the truck was fixed.
So what does this have to with serving the Lord?
You know at one time I was quite the odd one. People even said, “that Wright he won’t last, we have known him since he was a boy he won’t make it.” But thats not what God had in store for me
2 Timothy 2:20-21 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Think about that: there are all sorts of tools that our Lord uses and all we have to be is willing to say use me. Just like that odd wrench in my tool box it had and has a purpose. Just like you, don’t sell yourself short, God can use you no matter what anyone else thinks of you.
I think of myself when I got saved. Who would have guessed that I would be working for our Father some 29 years later. I would have to go out and look at what the brand of the wrench was, but the brand doesn’t matter to our Lord. What matters is that you are willing to be used by him. Maybe at first you’re not the perfect fit but if you let God use you, you will find that you are the one that he needed all along.
Exodus 3:10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
Have you ever asked “who am I?” Moses did, and look at what he accomplished for God. He was the perfect fit for the job that God had for him to do. He was raised in Pharaohs own home. But yet God had greater plans for him. He fled for his life out of Egypt, but God had a plan for him. God also has a plan for you. That wrench that I spoke about earlier has been in my tool box all this time but at the right time it was the one that was needed. Since you’ve been saved you have been in Gods family all this time, but all this time you have been needed. And we can have all sort of excuses, I’m too old, I’m too young, I’m not in the best of health, I’m just not good at talking to people, etc.
Exodus 4:10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? Or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the Lord? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
Who God has called he can equip, and who God equips he makes them able to perform the calling he has placed on your life. Look at Gideon: he tested
God before he answered the call. Also think of Samson: although they cut his hair and put out his eyes God was still able to use him. That wrench was made out of the same material that the rest of my wrenches were made of and its just like you: you are like the rest of Gods children, you’ve been called, you’ve been blood bought, you’ve been equipped.
Here is one last thought
Think of David standing against Goliath. This little shepherd boy standing up to this man of war. As this teen stands against this giant of a man what did David say? “The battle belongs to the Lord.”
1 Samuel 17:47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.”
So just stand there like David and look your foe in the face and say Gods got this one. And all the battles after this one.
May God Bless you in all that he has called you to do.
